Providence is calling a Laboratory Assistant Technical, Non Certified (0.6 FTE, 24 hours per week Variable shift) to work in Microbiology at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia, WA.

A Technical Lab Assistant – Non-Certified is responsible for clinical laboratory duties, including: Reception and Telephone duties, operating laboratory equipment including HIS/LIS systems, pneumatic Tube System, specimen handling and processing, shipping of Laboratory specimens for at Reference Laboratories. Knowledge of Billing practices. Taking orders for tests and clerical functions – patient registration, communication with customer/clients and lab staff. Performance of Point of Care testing consistent with the assigned site menu

In this position you will:

  • Perform reception and telephone duties

  • Able to handle and process multiple specimen drops (ie.) Courier Drops, Health Care Professional Drops, Tube Station Specimen Drops

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the unit’s testing procedures, systems and databases as necessary to the position

  • Perform office/clerical tasks such as filing, copying, and typing

  • Clean and maintain equipment and keeps the laboratory area clean and orderly

  • Perform QA/QC activities related to tasks.

  • Maintain competency appropriate to assigned sections


Required qualifications for this position includes:

  • High school Diploma -or- GED

  • Washington Driver's License and safe driving record

  • Clinical laboratory experience, equivalent course work exposure, or Medical Assistant training program

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Current CLP (ASCP) Registered Phlebotomist or equivalent certification
