Providence Health & Services Pharmacy Technician II - Credena in Olympia, Washington


Providence is calling a Pharmacy Technician II Outpatient (1.0 FTE, 40 hours per week Variable Shift) to work in Pharmacy at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia, WA. Apply Today!

Performs duties relating to the filling and dispensing of unit dose, IV and chemotherapeutic medications from the pharmacy to the nursing units and other ancillary departments in a prompt, safe and accurate manner.

In this position you will:

  • Must be competent in the assessment, treatment, and age-related care.

  • Accurately fills medication stock requisitions for departments and clinics.

  • Repackages liquids, injectables and oral medications using proper labeling procedure and following legal requirements.

  • Fills and prepares medications and IV solutions accurately.

  • Actively supports and incorporates the mission, “Value-based Customer Service Standards and Behaviors, and core values into daily activities.

  • Actively participates in staff meeting discussions.

  • Avoids using loud language and distasteful remarks to peers.

  • Actively listens and shows concern.

  • Reports to work as scheduled and on time per system policy. Time away from work is approved and taken in accordance with established system policies.

  • Follows all related policies and utilizes Kronos timekeeping system correctly.

  • Maintains confidentiality of all information related to patients, medical staff, employees, and as appropriate, other information.

  • Accesses patient information only when authorized or in the course of patient care.

  • Does not share patient information with others except as required to provide patient care.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of hospital confidentiality policies, applying knowledge in day to day practice.

  • Consistently demonstrates and incorporates principles of safety and infection control in daily activities as outlined in Environment of Care, Infection Control, and Exposure Control manuals. Maintains knowledge of work-appropriate aspects of environment of care program.

  • Uses protective equipment and takes appropriate precautions whenever there is potential for contact with blood, body fluids and/or chemicals.

  • Attends Environment of Care Skills training and participates in fire and disaster drills.

  • Participates in Department Process Improvement projects and efforts. Positively represents the pharmacy department in interactions with other departments and staff members throughout the hospital.

  • Participates in departmental QA/QI activities through data collection and evaluation, participates in problem solving activities and reports required data to the Pharmacy Manager or designee.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Successful completion of a Pharmacy Technician Level A program certified by the Washington State Board of Pharmacy or equivalent educ/experience

  • 3 years of Hospital Pharmacy experience working at least the equivalent of 0.5 FTE or greater with IV admixture/aseptic technique skills

  • Experience in at least seven areas of Advanced Hospital Pharmacy technician practice at PSPH in Chemotherapy Preparation:

  • OR Pharmacy Practices,

  • Automated Dispensing Machine (ADM) Management & Troubleshooting,

  • Controlled Drug Management,

  • Training & Competency Validations,

  • Tech Check Tech Certification,

  • Outpatient Pharmacy Practice (including Map prescription processing and POS),

  • Medication Supply Management,

  • National Pharmacy Technician Certification,

  • Triage Technician Functions & Problem Solving Skills,

  • Medication reconciliation skills, or

  • Receiving/packaging practice.

  • Experience with telephone call prioritization

  • Experience with stressful/urgent need situation

  • Active WA State Pharmacy Tech license from the Department of Health (PHTECHL)

  • Pharmacy Technician National Certification from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) is required within the first six months of hire
