We are seeking an Injury Prevention and Ergonomics Specialist PSJH who will manage programs for injury prevention, reduction and promotion of health at a regional level. The position will provide project management to new and existing programs in cooperation with the IP&E Manager to decrease caregiver harm through engineering, administrative, and work practice controls. The position will collaborate with IP&E Managers, Supervisors, Coordinators, Caregiver Health, Workers' Compensation and Return to Work, and local leadership to provide efficient and cost effective inter and intra facility services and training for ergonomics, safe patient handling, and other injury reduction services. The position will also support safety compliance with legislation (where applicable) and regulatory bodies (example: Occupational Safety & Health Administration and The Joint Commission). The position will promote integration of services within a culture of safety, wellness, and injury prevention, demonstrating principles of a highly reliable organization, including pay attention to detail, communicate clearly, have a questioning attitude, operate as a team and speak up for safety. Will also perform basic data analysis to help identify injury trends, prioritize areas for risk reduction, develop risk reduction strategies and work with appropriate leaders to implement interventions.
In this position you will have the following responsibilities:
Provide basic office ergonomic evaluations and injury prevention strategies to ministries and departments under the guidance of the IP&E Manager including individual ergonomic evaluations and departmental ergonomic training and reviews.
In collaboration with IP&E manager and Workers' Compensation, perform basic data analysis to identify injury risk and caregiver safety gaps and use research and evidence-based practices to provide input and implement established guidelines and assist in finding solutions.
Collaborate with the IP&E Manager to set up programs of ergonomics, safe patient handling, and injury prevention where they do not exist or lack structure, following standardized IP&E program objectives (example: project design, prioritization, and implementation).
Use injury trends to identify problem areas, and work with local leadership to identify and implement strategies to lower injuries.
Be knowledgeable and adhere to current and updated local, regional, state, and national standards and regulations that promote safety and injury prevention for patients and caregivers.
In collaboration with IP&E manager, Caregiver Health, and local leadership, facilitates the integration of caregiver safety with ministry key initiatives (ex: Caring Reliably, fall prevention, pressure injury prevention, committees).
In collaboration with IP&E manager, Caregiver Health, and Worker's Compensation, establish relationships with local leadership and participate in ministry-based caregiver safety meetings and initiatives.
Work with IPE Manager to oversee, develop, update/modify, and implement caregiver training needs and directly train as needed for caregiver safety topics, such as Safe Patient Handling & Ergonomics.
Actively round on the units to influence behavior for caregiver safety, perform Facility Risk Assessments, audit safe patient handling compliance, identify ergonomic concerns, identify opportunities for process improvement, and work with local leadership to implement changes.
May be required to travel to and work at different local, regional and national facilities as need arises. Regular and punctual attendance is an essential function of this job.
Required qualifications for this position include:
Certification in ergonomics or safe patient handling within 2 years.
3 years work experience related to ergonomics, injury prevention and safety or healthcare setting (i.e. RN, PT, OT, exercise physiologist).
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
Bachelor's Degree in healthcare related field (RN, OT, PT, ATC, industrial hygiene, Occupational Health and Safety, Kinesiology) or equivalent education/experience.
Master's Degree in healthcare related field (i.e. RN, OT, PT, ATC, industrial hygiene, Occupational Health and Safety, Kinesiology).
Ergonomic related training (i.e. CPE, CEAS, CIE, CAE, CHSEP, Human Factors Engineering, & SPHM).
Basic Life Support Training.
Project Management related training (i.e. Lean, Continuous Improvement).
Active state license and/or certification as appropriate (i.e. PT, OT, RN).
Occupational Therapist license.
Basic Life Support certification.
2 years work experience related to project management.
1 year work experience related to caregiver injury prevention or workers' compensation.
1 year acute health care experience.
