Providence Enterostomal Therapy Nurse - Enterostomal Clinic in Olympia, Washington
Providence is calling an Enterostomal Therapy Nurse (RN) (0.9 FTE, Day Shift) to Enterostomal Clinic at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia, WA.
The ET Nurse in person or by phone provides inpatient and outpatient consultative, acute, rehabilitative, and maintenance services to the patient population afflicted with selected disorders of the gastrointestinal, genitourinary, and integumentary systems. The components of ET nursing include education, counseling, research and administration.
In this position you will:
Responsible and serve as a primary patient educator to patients undergoing ostomy surgery. Responsible for assessing patients’ learning abilities and determines discharge goals.
Actively provide ostomy/wound/incontinence education and documents learner’s response. Responsible and serves as a resource person for patients who have had previous ostomy surgery in the acute care setting and ambulatory care setting.
Knowledge and skill in identifying and prioritizing issues that need resolution within the scope of the position. Takes responsibility for the decisions made and actions taken. Includes others in decision-making when appropriate and makes sound, independent judgments based on available information. Proposes constructive ideas for problem solving.
Responsible and serve as a consultant in the management of patients with draining wounds or fistulas.
Responsible and serve as a consultant for the management of patients with altered skin integrity. Responsible for developing relationships with staff to enhance their use of consultation services to improve follow-up of treatment plans, reassessments of patient responses, and satisfactory patient outcomes.
Responsible for maintaining outpatient records alphabetically and in a neat and orderly fashion
Responsible for evaluating by trial new ostomy and wound care products on a continuing basis. Changes stock items as relates to changing techniques. Responsible for maintaining Stock, Non-Stock, and Donated Supplies in an orderly manner so that operations of the Ostomy department can run smoothly
Knowledge and skill in recognizing occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens, i.e., skin, eye, mucous membranes or parenteral contact with blood or other potentially infectious material, in the course of performing job duties.
Responsible for participating in departmental QA/QI activities through data collection and evaluation; participates in problem solving activities.
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or equivalent educ/experience
A Registered Nurse licensed by the Washington State Board of Nursing.
Two (2) years Medical/Surgical Clinical experiences in an acute care setting with a special interest in Enterostomal Therapy.
CWON or CWOCN within 9 months of hire.
Graduate from an approved Enterostomal Therapy Education Program
Current Board Certification in Wound and Ostomy Nursing (Continence Nursing optional).
If not currently Board Certified, must complete a certification program within nine months of hire and become certified.
