Providence is calling a Manager Laboratory (1.0 FTE, 40 hours per week Days) to work in the Clinical Laboratory Services at Providence Centralia Hospital in Centralia, WA.

Provides leadership and technical oversight to all disciplines of the clinical pathology laboratory. This role is accountable for both technical and service quality, and participates in other operational, fiscal, compliance, regulatory, and quality management activities, as assigned. S/he works in collaboration with all other areas of the hospital in support of the provision of patient care.

In this position you will:

  • A. BASIC JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • 1) Communication: Must have effective verbal and written communication skills.   • 2) Operations:

  • a) Works with lab leadership to develop strategic departmental plans, in support of overall organizational goals.

  • b) Exhibits necessary skills to build an effective team.

  • c) Accountable to establish appropriate performance monitors across individual lab sections, and assure that these monitors are evaluated in a timely manner.

  • d) Develops and implements work schedule/assignments in a fair and equitable manner, consistent with staff skills and abilities.

  • e) Assures that all SOP’s are up-to-date in content, and that staff in various sections are also current with any reviews.

  • f) Works with section specialists to resolve operational issues in a timely manner.

  • g) Maintains any requested reports and/or databases.

  • h) Proficient with data analysis, in order to assist in evaluating statistical information related to volume, workflow, process improvement, and identifying efficacy of process changes.

  • 3) Human Resources: Ability to work with others to create a positive workplace environment, as well as one consistent with Providence Values, and all applicable HR regulations.

  • a) Works with Talent Acquisition and Lab Supvs/Mgrs to assure that properly trained and credentialed staff are hired

  • b) Accountable to departmental function and structure that will support the highest levels of performance, as well as attract and retain the most competent employees.

  • c) Assures that competency is delegated and documented according to CLIA guidelines, in each lab section.

  • d) Evaluates goal-setting and staff performance in a timely manner, promoting professional development.

  • e) Acts as a mentor and coach to supervisory staff.

  • f) Promotes the professional and personal development of all staff.

  • g) Performs and/or guides processes of staff discipline, using a clear Performance Improvement Plan, consistent with Providence HR direction.

  • 4) Finance – Understands and can contribute to evaluation of monthly finance reports.

  • a) Assists in developing the operating and capital budgets for department cost centers.

  • b) Assists in evaluating purchasing reports, to help identify and resolve any budgetary compliance issues.

  • c) May work with local RI, ORC, and/or HB to help resolve any billing issues, or assist in the building and/or mapping of local testing needs.

  • 5) Quality/Compliance/Safety – Must be knowledgeable of CLIA regulations that guide all clinical laboratory activities. Experience in implementing Lead practices and processes is desirable.

  • a) Helps ensure the department's functions maintain CAP certification and licensure required by TJC, OSHA, DOH and other applicable agencies, under direction of federal CLIA regulations.

  • b) Helps ensure that processes are in place to ensure the department has adequate staffing, supplies, and equipment that is well maintained to successfully meet the mission of providing excellent service to the patients of the hospital, community physicians, and community members.

  • c) Ensures that employees work in a safe environment.

  • d) Collaborates with the managers and staff in developing the QA plans for the department.

  • e) Ensures that a process exists for the timely review and analysis of QA monitoring results.

  • f) Oversees activities that are designed to continually improve laboratory services/outcomes.

  • B. ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS

  • Other duties as assigned by the Medical Director or Administrative Laboratory Director for the Service Area

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position includes:

  • Bachelor's Degree Related science field. And

  • Coursework/Training Successful completion of an accredited School of Medical Technology.

  • Possesses strong technical aptitude

  • Demonstrated written communication skills

  • Strong verbal communication and listening skills

  • Performs work independently with minimal supervision

  • Demonstrated time management and priority setting skills

  • Ability to work within tight timeframes and meet strict deadlines

  • Ability to drive multiple projects to successful completion

  • Demonstrated analytical skills

  • Knowledge base includes experience with LIS, competency with basic personal computer systems (i.e. Microsoft Office applications),

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Master's Degree Related science field. Or

  • Coursework/Training Management training/classes

  • Coursework/Training Additional coursework in ‘leadership’ and supervisory skills.

  • 5 years Laboratory experience in a high complexity (preferably hospital-based) laboratory.

  • 5 years Management experience.
